The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, has honoured a retired Deputy Superintendent of Traffic (DST), Anifa Bello Abiodun, with an Award of Recognition and cash support for her outstanding service to the Nigeria Police Force.

The recognition was presented on Thursday, September 17, 2026, at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, in appreciation of Abiodun’s years of professional and dedicated service, particularly her work in traffic management with the Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta.

During her years on duty, Abiodun earned the goodwill of residents and road users through her professionalism, discipline and commitment to managing traffic and assisting members of the public.

Speaking at the presentation, Disu said the recognition demonstrated the importance of acknowledging police personnel who serve with professionalism and integrity.

According to him, members of the public are more likely to appreciate the Police when officers conduct themselves responsibly, noting that dissatisfaction is often triggered by individual misconduct rather than a rejection of the institution itself.

The IGP said the Force would continue to hold personnel accountable for misconduct while also recognising officers whose conduct reflects the values expected of members of the Police.

He added that recognising exemplary service could encourage other personnel to distinguish themselves through dedication, professionalism and responsible engagement with the communities they serve.

The recognition of Abiodun comes as an example of how individual police officers can shape public perceptions of the institution through their everyday conduct. Her years of service in traffic management, a role that often places officers in direct and sometimes difficult interactions with members of the public, earned her community recognition that has now been acknowledged by the Force’s leadership.

The Nigeria Police Force said it would continue to promote accountability while recognising exemplary conduct and the contributions of personnel whose dedication to duty strengthens public confidence in policing.
